An automated retry converts a transport hiccup into a duplicated business action unless every downstream call has an idempotency plan, dedupe key, or clear compensation path. Decide retry policy, deduplication keys, and compensation together so the agent can answer “retry?” with the full contract in hand. As a rule, surface a per-action idempotency key and a retry policy in the agent UI and test scenarios that show the worst duplicate-case for each integration.
