Most “rogue agent” stories are containment and logging failures, not evidence that models suddenly have agency. Teams are still skipping mundane controls: proper sandboxing, strict egress rules, continuous monitoring, deterministic replay of agent actions, and an operator kill switch. That convenience of running agents against live systems stops where attribution, reversibility, and boundedness begin. Design production agents so every side effect is attributable, reversible, and bounded, and demand those guarantees from vendors.
AI agents aren’t ‘going rogue.’ Frontier labs are skipping security basics.
